Apply For A Place

To apply for a place at The Ladies' College in all departments, please contact our Registrar, Rosalyn McClean on 01481 721602 or email registrar@ladiescollege.ac.gg

We welcome prospective pupils and parents to come and take a look around our school at any time. Ros McClean will personally take you on a tour of the College campus and answer any questions you may have. For prospective Preparatory and Junior pupils, the Head Teacher, Mrs Lawson, will show you around Melrose.

Places are awarded on the following basis:

Pre-School

The first twenty applicants per year group will usually receive a place at Pre-School with a guaranteed place for Lower Preparatory in Melrose. There are further non-conditional Pre-School places available but those girls will have to go on the waiting list for places in Lower Preparatory. Girls can be registered at The Ladies' College Pre-School from birth.

Melrose

Usually, pupils from The Ladies' College Pre-School are automatically awarded a place in Lower Preparatory (Reception) at Melrose. Thus there are waiting lists for most year groups at Melrose. Where places are available they are awarded subject to relevant assessment, and attending a taster day.

Senior School

Usually, pupils from Melrose (up to 24) are automatically awarded a place in Remove (Year 7). The remainder of places will be offered to external candidates who will be assessed through our new admissions process. Starting with the intake of September 2025, we will be implementing a more selective admissions approach that seeks to identify students who are best positioned to benefit from our unique educational offering. It is important to note that we will not be focusing on a narrow skill set but instead will be looking more holistically at individuals, considering areas such as curiosity, passion, and intellectual and emotional flexibility. Thus, in addition to the current English and Mathematics assessments for 11+ entry, we will be utilising a wider selection criterion, including the skills and interests of pupils, and asking them to attend an informal chat with staff to share their areas of passion.

Entry to Remove (Year 7) September 2025:

· Entrance Assessment Saturday 19th October 2025
· Closing Date for Applications is 4th October 2025
· Offer of places on Tuesday 22nd October 2025
· Acceptance of Places by 7th November 2025

All entrants to the Sixth Form must have achieved at least Grade 4 in Maths and English Language IGCSE or GCSE (or equivalent). In addition, a minimum Grade 6 is required in the subjects relevant to those a student is wishing to study at A-level. A supporting reference is also required.

The Ladies’ College is delighted to offer a bursary scheme to offer a number of students a percentage of funds towards their fees, depending on individual needs. For more information or if you would like to apply for a bursary, please see our Bursaries page.
