Meet our Head Girl Team

Leadership opportunities

Each year the students and staff elect a Head Girl and prefect team. The Head Girl Team includes the Head Girl, two Deputy Head Girls and a team of Prefects.

These students play an integral role in the running of the school working with younger students as well as organising and supporting school events. The Head Girl Team represents the school at both in school and out of school events. They are excellent ambassadors for the school.

Every year in early September as the new school term approaches, I look back through old family photos and every year I come across a picture of me on my first day of pre-school in my Ladies' College uniform, significantly too big for me, in 2011, aged three and a little bit. Since then, I’ve grown to call the Ladies’ College home and grown up with the people I first started with.

For me, my favourite thing about our College is the opportunity to grow, to try new skills, to enter a house bake-off despite only ever having burnt toast and still have a great time learning something new anyway. And that’s why this year I am so excited to be the next head girl, I am unbelievably proud to get to champion a student body that so perfectly represents our values of integrity, bravery and kindness.

I remember joining in Lower Five and being amazed by how supportive and nurturing the college community is. I want to help ensure that this is a place where all students can be their authentic selves without fear of judgement or failure.

For me, school life has been shaped by the relationships I have made. Genuine friendships with girls from across all year groups that have been built on a base of support and kindness. Knowing I can be there for others and receive the same treatment back has allowed me to have confidence in expressing myself and stepping out of my comfort zone.

Not everyone shines in academics alone, and that’s okay. I aim to promote sports, arts, and student-run clubs to ensure everyone has a chance to discover their passion. College life should be more than just grades (and whilst they are still important) girls should also strive to make memories that they will carry with them for life.

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be part of this year's head girl team and I'm so excited to help make an impact in the school environment!

I started at The Ladies' College when I was 4 years old. I remember in Melrose looking up at the oldest girls, shocked at how big and grown up they were. I then started in Remove and once again was the smallest in the school, looking up at the upper sixth and the head girl team, wondering if I would ever be grown-up like them. Now I am as grown-up as them and even though it doesn’t always feel like it, I’m so pleased that I get the honour of being given the role of deputy head girl.

What I want to do as deputy head girl is help integrate and ease the transition going from the youngest to the oldest again and make that change seem a bit less daunting. This college community is so strong and really promotes the environment of inclusion and ‘having a go’. Something I wish to emulate as deputy head girl. Whether you have a great passion or want to try new things, this college is the place to do it, and I want to highlight this attitude by supporting new clubs and events. I cannot wait to use this position as deputy head girl to uphold and support the values of this college and make a positive difference to the school.
