A Creative Space Designed by Alumni Nicole Falla
The Leaf Centre has undergone a stunning transformation, providing a fresh and inviting environment for students to study, collaborate, and unwind. The refurbishment, approved by the Board in April 2024, was completed over the summer holidays and is already being hailed as a significant enhancement to the College's facilities.
Under the guidance of Miss Clements, Head of Sixth Form, and Mrs Newton, Marketing Co-Ordinator, the project aimed to breathe new life into the Leaf Centre. Recognising the need for expert input, they enlisted the talent of interior designer and alumna Nicole Falla.
Nicole's vision focused on modernising the space while maintaining its core elements, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that truly reflects the spirit of the students.
Nicole shared her pride in returning to The Ladies’ College to work on this project. “My goal was to create an environment that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and uplifting. I wanted students to feel comfortable, inspired, and supported in their wellbeing and studies,” she remarked.
Central to the redesign are two stylish upholstered pods in the main room, outfitted with tables, benches, and integrated lighting and sensors, offering a modern, functional space for study or group work. Complementing this are two diner-style booths in the kitchen area, providing a comfortable setting for informal gatherings and discussions.
The transformation extends beyond furniture. In the Quiet Study Room, a beautifully hand-painted mural designed by Mrs Newton and brought to life by Lower Sixth students during Alternative Curriculum Week adds a unique and personal touch to the space.
The kitchen has also been upgraded with new appliances, including a fridge, microwave, kettles, coffee machine, and other essentials to ensure students have everything they need for a break.
Throughout the Leaf Centre, different work zones have been created, from high desks with stools to lower desks with chairs, allowing for both focused study and social interaction. The atmosphere is further enriched by inspiring artwork and motivational quotes, which highlight the College’s core values of Courage, Integrity, and Kindness, creating a nurturing environment that supports both personal and academic growth.
The refurbishment not only included new furniture and fixtures but also emphasised sustainability, with existing furniture being sanded and repainted, and current students actively participating in creating hanging baskets and macramé wall art.
Miss Clements expressed her enthusiasm for the renovation, stating, “We couldn’t be more thrilled with the transformation. The space is now modern, welcoming, and truly reflects the spirit of our students. It creates the perfect environment for them to thrive, both academically and personally.”
