During the month of November the Art Department offered students in Upper Five and Sixth Form an 4 week ‘Introduction to Portrait Painting’ workshop with local Artist Liz Adams. This was an opportunity for students to develop confidence and competence in the field of portraits and oil painting. The workshop explored the benefits to taking control of oil painting media, with tips on composition and understanding the effects of light. Lower Six student Georgina Smart said ‘The portrait workshop was a great opportunity to learn a new skill and explore some different techniques involved with oil painting. Liz Adams give up her own time to teach us the art of portraiture, for which we are very grateful. We had a total of six hours, in front of two volunteer models, to produce a portrait using the tools and paints provided, as well as Liz’s artistic wisdom. Under her guidance and fuelled by her homemade mince pies, everybody produced a piece of artwork and had a great time doing so. Overall the workshop was a great success and I would love to have the opportunity to do more projects like this.’
