The Ladies’ College reaches for the top of the league

NEWS  SENIOR SCHOOL , SIXTH FORM

The Sunday Times has recently published its League Tables for State and Independent Schools and The Ladies’ College is pleased to have climbed 30 places in the past year to now be positioned 200th in the rankings.

Principal, Ashley Clancy, says, ‘Whilst this is a great place to be, what the College rates more highly is its value-added figures which evidence that girls who study with us do better than their academic peers in other comparable schools’. These figures are produced by the Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring at Durham University and are used by education professionals in over 70 countries.

Yet it must not be just about exam results’ Mrs Clancy continues, ‘as we aim to provide all of our girls with a breadth and depth of experience, both inside and outside of the classroom to educate the fully rounded person’.

For example, as part of the College’s continued focus on providing opportunities and support to its students, it has recently piloted The Decider life skills training throughout the Senior School and Sixth Form. The College is the first Guernsey school to have implemented the training which enables individuals to learn effective coping skills and to encourage a positive mind-set. This approach is fundamental to students achieving their best and the College is already reinforcing peer to peer relationships through team building activities across year groups and the benefits of these are now being realised.

In addition to this focus on the experience of its student body, the College also supports its academic framework with a programme of co-curricular activities and events which bring the College and community together. In the run up to Christmas this includes next week’s Senior School PTA’s Christmas Fayre on 15 December, 15:00-17:30, which is open to the public and welcomes the community into the College.

Maintaining its links with the community has also been a significant focus for the College in relation to its A Gift for Learning, Phase 3 campaign, which will provide a new three storey extension to the Senior School. Building work is on schedule to provide a new £7.5 million learning environment with state of the art facilities which reflect the hard work and achievements of the College’s students ready for September 2016. Dame Mary Perkins recognises the importance of investing in the College through her patronage of the Campaign. Support is also extended by the College’s alumnae organisation, The Ladies’ College Guild, who have pledged that all their fundraising in 2015/16 will be donated to this cause.
