15th – 17th March 2016
Mount Haes (Lower Four & Upper Four)
This year we had three girls fencing in the Mount Haes age group.
Aimée Stormonth and Anya Tee were both competing for the first time. In the epée, Aimée placed a well-deserved 22nd out of 56 fencers, whilst Anya also demonstrated great promise, finishing in 27th place. In foil both girls beat some tough opponents with Aimée finishing in 32nd place out of 61 fencers and Anya finishing 51st.
Marina Haynes was our star performer and put in a number of solid performances over the three days, finishing 2nd in the ‘Champion At Arms’ competition. In the epee she finished 8th and in the foil she finished 11th, whilst her 3rd place finish in the sabre was particularly noteworthy. Marina shows great promise for the future and she should be extremely proud of the technical improvements she has made over the last year.
Junior Events (Lower Five & Upper Five)
We also had some good results in the junior events, with Raffi Bruscini, Autumn Rowe and Ella Huxtable all competing.
In the foil, Raffi finished in a deserved 34th place out of 52 fencers, whilst Ella produced some excellent fencing to place 21st. Her best result, however, came in the epée, in which she finished 9th.
Autumn’s strongest performance came in the sabre, winning 5 out of her 8 opening matches and finishing 10th out of 28 fencers. In the epee, she faced some challenging opponents and placed 50th out of 57.
Senior Events (Sixth Form)
George Reynolds faced some stiff competition in her first year in the senior age group, facing the ultimate winner in her first poule. She battled well to finish 22nd out of 27 fencers.
Overall, the girls put in some admirable performances and will have learnt a lot from facing some very experienced opposition. The competition is an excellent opportunity to put their training into practice and will have sharpened their focus for the rest of the season.
