Psychology
“The study of mind and behaviour.”
Do you ever wonder what causes psychological disorders? Do you want to understand how our childhood may affect our adult behaviour and relationships? Would you like to conduct scientific research? Would you make a good eye-witness?
Psychology is offered at Sixth Form and is one of the most popular A-level choices. The subject is taught to inform, challenge and enthuse our students about the human mind, behaviour and emotion, whilst appreciating and understanding individual differences. There is a strong focus on research methods. Students are encouraged to carry out their own research, teaching them the importance of a scientific method whilst giving opportunities for good cross-departmental links with Biology, Mathemathics and Geography. Emphasis on research based evaluation equips our students with the skills to question and challenge beliefs using informed, evidence based arguments when formulating their own views and opinions.
We have mixed classes of boys and girls who are following the AQA specification. Since the A-level reform we have a high achievement rate of A* - C. Each year, many students decide to continue studying Psychology at University gaining places at some of the top universities throughout the UK and further afield.
