We run our own KS3 curriculum for Remove and Lower Four.
Pupils study Biology, Chemistry and Physics with one science teacher for six lessons per week Subjects covered include: An Introduction to Science; Forces; Energy; Chemical and Physical Changes; States of Matter; Acids; Cells; Classification; Plants; and Ecology.
Pupils are taught in form groups and have two lessons each of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics taught by a specialist teacher.
The skills that are honed and developed are skills to enable them to be a good scientist. They learn how to plan, do and understand investigations; drawing graphs, explaining results, and evaluating their experiment, including asking further questions. We also encourage them to get excited about trying out science experiments at home and discuss science in the news.
Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry, Biology and Physics is started at the beginning of Upper Four when pupils are set by ability. Pupils who find the sciences more difficult are transferred to the Edexcel IGCSE Science double award and this decision is taken by the teachers in Lower Five.
All A level boards are AQA and we run Chemistry, Biology and Physics in a joint sixth form with Elizabeth College.
There are no practical assessments or course work for either IGCSE or A levels but we do run a comprehensive programme of practicals in lessons to enhance the pupil's learning.
