Clementine sails into the headlines

NEWS  SENIOR SCHOOL , SIXTH FORM , PHYSICAL EDUCATION

We were delighted to hear that one of our Lower Sixth students, Clementine Thompson, is sailor of the month in the January edition of Yachts & Yachting magazine. This is a great achievement and gives her fantastic recognition and a national profile.

Clementine has enjoyed consistent success in her sailing and is on the Guernsey Sports Commission's High Performance Programme. She has had a busy year, making it into the RYA national youth squad, alongside finishing as the first British U17 girl and the sixth European U17 girl at the Laser Radial European Youth Championship in Croatia.

Meanwhile, mountain biker Hannah English, who is in Lower Five, has been selected for the British Cycling Talent Team squad in her chosen sport. This is the first rung on the ladder towards becoming an Olympian so is really exciting and, again, a great achievement.

Hannah's selection for the GB squad will involve her travelling to the UK to train once a month. She must also compete in all five of the National Mountain Biking Series events, held in various locations from Cornwall to Glasgow. At the end of the series she will be given a national ranking. Hannah will be in the GB squad for a year - next year her aim is to become part of the Olympic Development Programme.

We wish both girls every future success with their sporting ambitions. Well done!
