From 17-23 September 2016, we had the pleasure of entertaining our guests from Papenburg. Students from The Ladies’ College girls had been to Germany in May and this was the reciprocal visit. They had a wonderful week weather-wise and were able to carry out all of the activities without coats!
Our visitors were most impressed by our fantastic new facilities and were shown around our newly opened Wessex Wing by our Head Girl, Chloe Curtis. Chloe conducted her tour in German as well as English which was very much appreciated by our German counterparts!
During their time with us the students also had an island tour, spent a day in Herm, visited Victor Hugo’s house and Castle Cornet and also spent time at La Grande Mare learning to play golf. Mrs Brogan had kindly given them an introduction to the geography and history of Guernsey at the beginning of their stay which really helped them to understand what life on our beautiful island is all about. The highlight of the week for the girls was their farewell dinner at Crabby Jack’s.
This kind of exchange visit is beneficial in very many ways. Isabelle Glass, Upper Five, has written the following article for the ILEX magazine:
“We were all very happy to see our German friends again, and on Sunday we all spent the whole day at the beach. This exchange helped me to extend my German vocabulary as well as make new friendships and I would highly recommend this fun experience to anyone else who is taking German for GCSE.”
