Guild hosts London reception for its alumni

NEWS  SENIOR SCHOOL , SIXTH FORM , MELROSE , PRE-PREPARATORY

The Ladies’ College Guild has held its first London reception, inviting alumni from across the UK share stories and to learn more about what life at College is like in 2016.

The Guild was established in 1905 to promote links between the College’s alumni and to support the interests of its present day students. Now in its 111th year, The Guild has seen its membership grow steadily in recent years and, keen to reconnect with former students, it hosted its first off-island event on Thursday 19 May 2016.

The reception was attended by ‘old girls’ spanning the past 7 decades, as well as current and former staff. It is hoped that the celebration will become an annual event, alongside The Guild’s busy diary of events which include its AGM and afternoon tea, wine and cheese tastings and popular quiz evenings.

The venue, in St. Paul’s, was busy with the sound of animated discussion and laughter and many of the attendees wore green, a small nod to the uniform which current students of the College still proudly wear.

Sancia Rosomon, who left the College in 1955, was delighted to attend and said: “The evening has been a great success and I look forward to the next get together”.

Claire Dawson, Chairman of The Guild, said: “It is incredibly important to The Guild and the College to forge a lasting relationship with its students. We encourage this through free membership and we are working hard to improve communication with members through our use of Facebook and the College website. Nothing, however, is more rewarding than the power of meeting face to face and last night’s event is a testament to this”.

If you are a former student and wish to become a member of The Guild, or get more involved in their work to support the College, please contact ladiescollegeguild@cwgsy.net or visit /support-us/the-ladies-college-guild.
