Merlose Tag Rugby

NEWS  MELROSE , PHYSICAL EDUCATION

On Saturday 25th March Melrose entered 2 teams in the Canaccord Tag Rugby Festival. Over 40 teams played over 122 games with nearly 500 children joining in the fun. Our teams were the only all girl teams.

Our year 3 and 4 team, Lailie’s Limas, coached by Lailie and Stuart Platt- Ransom played some very tight games and scored lots of tries in their group round before finding themselves in the Bowl knockout. They all had a fantastic morning and coach Lailie, said that she was pleased to see the team playing so well.

Melrose Morris’ Monsters, our Year 5 and 6 team also played some excellent rugby, scoring 49 tries during the morning! Every game they played was a close call and scores were only separated by one try each time. All referees and island players commented on the high standard of rugby and all the girls have been asked to attend the Guernsey academy for this age group, high praise indeed.

The team went on to the Bowl knockout and beat La Hougette School 8 tries to 3. Then playing Castel Primary School in the semi-finals, the team game back from behind to just be pipped at the post 6 tries to 5 in the final seconds of the game.

Captain Minnie Swaisand said, “I thought we played amazingly and I hope we all carry on playing rugby at this standard”

Thanks to all supporters and especially coaches Lailie and Stuart Platt Ransom and Miss Dudin and Mr Lewis for accompanying the teams.
