Melrose entered 3 teams in the Canaccord 2018 Tag Rugby Festival and again showed that all girl teams can hold their own!
The Collins’ Cougars played brilliantly in the year3/4 tournament and won more games and scored more tries than ever before by a Melrose team in this age group. Coaches Liz Dudin and Dan Collins were very proud of their team.
Lailie’s Limas, coached by Stuart and Lailie Platt Ransom made it all the way to the semi-finals of the Year 5/6 Bowl Championship before being knocked out by the Forest School who went on to win this trophy.
Morris’ Monsters played some excellent rugby and ended up fighting out the quarterfinals in the Plate Championship before being knocked out by Blanchelande Bashers, who went on to win this.
Everyone had a fantastic day and amazingly managed to find some energy after an already hectic week with Wind in the Willows performances and so many people being full of nasty colds. True resilience!
Tournament organisers passed on huge congratulations to the teams as they had played such fine rugby and said they hoped that the girls would continue playing as many have the potential to play for the Island when older.
