London Art Trip

NEWS  SENIOR SCHOOL , ART , PHOTOGRAPHY

The Art and Photography trip to London last weekend with 27 wonderful, creative students was a great success. We had a busy plan of exhibition visits to The Photographers Gallery, The Royal Academy of Arts and The Tate Modern. Students soaked in a wonderful amount of Art and Photography spanning over 500 years to gain cultural understanding and inspiration for their own projects.

A personal highlight was coming out of an exhibition to find students enjoying the nooks and crannies of The Tate Modern sketching and making notes about their findings. The students benefited from seeing the artworks in real life, most notably, Paul Cezanne at The Tate Modern.

The Art and Photography department were really impressed by the students' continuous engagement and enjoyment over the weekend. GCSE student, Charlotte, completed a wonderful write-up which sums up the benefit the students gained from the weekend beautifully.

“A Fun, Inspiring and Eye-opening weekend”

“From the hustle and bustle of London underground, the animation of the city and famous landmarks, which are way bigger in real life. I was besieged by creativity and ideas from my surroundings. ‘The photographers gallery’ which visiting it as an art student, gave me a new appreciation for photography with the meaningful messages that they convey, such as Chris Killip’s black and white images displaying the 'efforts and values of the economic shift in North of England throughout the 1970s and 80s'. Although we spent many hours in the Tate Modern, the sheer vastness of the gallery was almost overwhelming to comprehend the stories and deeper meanings behind each glassed frame or sculpture. Not only have I left London with an enhanced admiration of the variety of Art, but it has also given me way too many ideas of the creativity that I can explore.”
